How we do it
- Assessment. We check the height, the roofline and the access, then choose the safest way to clear each run.
- Clearing by hand. We clear the gutters by hand from safe, secure access, lifting leaves, silt and moss straight out of the run.
- Downpipes. We check and flush the downpipes and clear any blockages so the water actually drains away, not just off the edge of the gutter.
- Final check. We confirm the water is flowing freely through the whole system before we finish, and clear away any debris from the ground.
Why it matters
Blocked gutters are one of the most common causes of damp in Bolton homes. When leaves, moss and silt clog the run, rainwater has nowhere to go, so it pours over the edge and runs down the wall behind. Over time that constant soaking causes damp patches inside, staining and green streaks down the render, and rot in timber fascias and soffits. The weight of waterlogged debris can also drag gutters out of level or pull the joints apart until they leak and sag.
A gutter clear costs far less than putting right damp walls or rotten fascias. It’s tempting to blast a gutter out with a pressure washer, but jetting a full gutter usually just sprays the mess up the wall and forces water under the tiles. We lift the debris out by hand and save the pressure washing for driveways, patios and the other surfaces that can take it.
